Why Won't Justice Pay His Taxes?
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- As West Virginians file income taxes today, we look to Charleston and Governor Jim Justice's refusal to pay millions to our counties, state and Federal government. Folks hate to pay taxes, but Justice flat-out refuses to pay those bills owed by his companies.

"Just a reminder, but it's been 161 days since Jim Justice fooled the voters and was elected," said West Virginia Republican Party Chairman Conrad Lucas. "It was reported last fall and continues into 2017 that Justice's companies owe millions of dollars. NPR put that figure at $15 million. Most important are the more than $4 million in reported back taxes to Kanawha, Raleigh and Logan Counties."

Some of those back taxes are for failing to pay payroll deductions for his employees, and to the state for Workers' Compensation insurance and Unemployment Insurance. For most normal business owners, those sorts of non-payments result in quick Federal seizures and indictments.

"We have no idea how and why State Tax officials, the IRS and the U.S. Attorney have not moved on Justice for his millions in taxes owed by these companies. Not paying payroll taxes has sent other, less well-connected West Virginians to jail in recent months. Jim Justice should not be above the law," Lucas said. "Please call the Governor at 304-558-2000 and ask why he refuses to pay millions in back taxes for our schools and parks."
