Record Number of WVGOP Legislative Candidates File for Office
Charleston, WV- A record number of Republican legislative candidates filed for office at the deadline this past Saturday. As of Monday morning, the Secretary of State’s office shows 150 Republican candidates have filed for the House of Delegates and 33 Republican candidates for State Senate. Both are modern records for the West Virginia Republican Party.
Statement from Chairman Mark Harris below:
A decade ago, during the 2012 election cycle, 106 Republican candidates filed for the West Virginia House of Delegates and only 10 Republicans filed for State Senate.
The massive number of candidates filed speaks to the tremendous grassroots energy sweeping through our state, our nation, and our Party.
The surge in candidates is the latest sign the West Virginia Republican Party’s conservative message is resonating across the Mountain State from Wheeling to Williamson and Huntington to Charles Town.
I encourage all Republican and conservative-leaning independent voters to reach out to candidates for public office and thoroughly research everyone on the ballot. West Virginia is depending on Republican Primary voters to vet our public officials in the primary.
