Charleston, WV — The WVGOP State Executive Committee assembled in Morgantown, WV on Saturday for their regularly scheduled Summer Meeting. Due to the resignation of Chairman Matt Herridge, the main order of business was the election of a new State Party Chair. Chairman Herridge announced earlier this month that he would be vacating his seat as Chair to focus his full attention toward his role as Secretary of Commerce under Governor Morrisey.
On the second round of balloting, Josh Holstein, who has represented Boone County in the West Virginia House of Delegates since 2020 and served as Boone County Executive Committee Chair, was elected Chairman.
On his election, Holstein said the following:
“It is truly an honor to have earned the confidence of the State Executive Committee to lead our party. I am grateful for their support and for the unity shown by my competitors, Wes Parry and Michael George, who ran commendable campaigns.
Growing up in the Southern Coalfields in Boone County, and as the son of generations of coal miners, my life’s story is uniquely West Virginian. Throughout my time in public office, I have communicated the concerns and desires of the people of West Virginia effectively because I have lived as they have lived and share the values of faith, hard work, and determination that bind us together.
I am eager to begin the necessary work to grow our party, communicate our message, and continue winning elections up and down the ballot. Under the leadership of President Trump and with the support of our Republican elected officials, we will continue delivering for the working men and women of West Virginia.”
Holstein joins the Republican National Committee (RNC) as the youngest of its 168 members from the across the country.
